The North Coast Builders Exchange (NCBE) is a non-profit membership organization of contractors and associates.

North Bay Construction Corps (NBCC)

The North Bay Construction Corps (NBCC) is a hands-on basic construction training program for seniors in their last semester of high school. Seniors in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties are eligible to apply. 

The North Bay Construction Corps, created in 2017, inspires and prepares the next generation of construction professionals. The program was created in response to industry leaders’ call for more young people to enter the trades, as many skilled workers approach retirement and the demand for trained talent continues to grow.

NBCC gives students the hands-on skills, knowledge, and confidence to succeed in the construction industry.

NBCC is a 3-month program that runs March-May and primarily meets on Saturdays from 8am-3pm and several weeknights from 5pm-7:30pm. Each Saturday highlights a different trade and uses hands-on learning to teach program participants fundamentals and skills needed for the specific trade. Each program day is led by local contractors and skilled tradespeople.

The curriculum covers many trades including plumbing, electrical, concrete, carpentry, heavy equipment operation, framing, and HVAC.  The curriculum also includes weeknight sessions for classroom learning topics such as construction math, plan reading, financial literacy and interview preparation. There is a strong focus on safety awareness throughout the entire program. Construction Corps participants earn certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Jobsite Safety.

The Corps culminates with options for students to get paid construction experience for 2 weeks in June. Students who are 18 years old can participate in a two-week paid internship with a NCBE member company. Students who are 17 years old can participate in a two-week Boot Camp where they work on a community improvement project and are paid an educational stipend for their work. Every year, nearly all Corps members who want to work in construction are able to gain employment post program. NCBE actively works to connect students with companies in the trades who are hiring entry level employees.
